Artist Statement
My art and process with wild-foraged clay is both a ritual and a reflection, deeply personal while connected to the shared human experience. Like us, clay carries a history—shaped over millennia, holding unseen imprints of time. Each vessel whispers the essence of the land it came from, its minerals revealing hidden narratives beneath the surface—stories that, like our own, often remain just below conscious awareness. Through gathering, cleaning, hand-building, and pit-firing, I alchemize suffering and inherited trauma into clarity and strength. My work is not only about individual healing but also about our collective human condition and the transformative potential we share.
Earth, touch, time, and fire shape each piece, much like experience shapes us. Fissures, smoke clouds, and unpredictable textures mark transformation—imperfect and whole. Every piece stands as a testament to resilience, honoring the past while becoming something new.
