This 1.5-day workshop is designed for intermediate ceramicists looking to explore the pit firing techniques. Through 4 detailed demos, you'll learn the entire process, from creating a pit, exploring different options for surface effects, materials considerations, preparing your pieces for firing, to firing techniques . While this workshop focuses on pit firing, it's open to all levels and provides an excellent introduction to this traditional and natural firing method.

Consideration when building the fire
Techniques for Oxidation and Reduction
Options for sealing your work
This workshop is an ideal starting point for those seeking to learn about an ancient and alternative firing technique to add versatility and unique options to their creative process.
Please note:
Maximum of 20 attendees, minimum 10. If the minimum registration number is not met the workshop will be canceled and you will be refunded your money.
This workshop will take place outdoors. In the event of inclement weather we will contact you regarding rescheduling.
This is an instructional 1.5 day workshop including 4 demos
Ceramics experience is not required, but intermediate ceramics experience is suggested

Lunch and drinks will not be provided so please plan to bring your own meals, snacks, and beverages. There will be a refrigerator and microwave available for use.
The wild clay workshop is sold separately. Unless you’re a ESPS student, you are required to participate in the wild clay workshop to participate in the pit firing. You can find more information and to register for the Wild Clay Workshop here.
All materials for the pit firing and surface treatments will be provided
The demos are instructional for how to pit fire your work. Your work must be bone dry in order to have pieces in the pit firing.
