This one-day introductory workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of wild, local, foraged clay, designed to inspire and inform. Through six detailed demos, you’ll gain the foundational knowledge needed to start incorporating natural clay into your ceramics practice.
Demos include:
How to identify wild clay in urban landscapes
Testing clay on-site for workability
Dry and wet cleansing methods
Preparing and processing clay
Natural glaze options
Key considerations for pit firing (with the option to register for our separate pit firing workshop)
This workshop is an ideal starting point for those seeking to reconnect with the land by embracing sustainable, local materials in their creative process.
Please note:
Maximum of 20 attendees, minimum 10. If the minimum registration number is not met the workshop will be canceled and you will be refunded your money.
This workshop will take place outdoors. In the event of inclement weather the workshop will be postponed to October 26, 2024
This is an instructional day-long workshop including 6 demos
Ceramics experience is not required, but intermediate ceramics experience is suggested

This is an outdoor event. There is a natural swimming pond (think Barton Springs) available to cool off throughout the day

What’s not included
Lunch and drinks will not be provided so please plan to bring your own meals, snacks, and beverages. There will be a refrigerator and microwave available for use.
The pit firing workshop is sold separately. You can register here.
You have the option to purchase items to assemble a wild clay kit similar to what is used during the demos
Clay will not be provided. The demos are instructional for how to find, test, and prepare your own foraged, local, wild clay on your own after the workshop.
